Weekly Buzz




September 24-28

Reading: We will finish the story A Fox and a Kit and review suffix s and ing.  We will begin the story Get the Egg.  In this story we will practice words with short e and beginning consonant blends ( sl, fl, sw, etc.).  We will also discuss the differences between realism and fantasy.

Writing: The students are practicing writing with correct capital letters and lowercase letters and ending punctuation.  We have discussed writing complete sentences with at subject and predicate.  


Math: We will continue our chapter on subtraction concepts. At home, practice counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s.  

Social Science: We will move onto studying weather!! We will discuss temperature, the different types of weather, and clouds.  




September 17-21

HOME READING FOLDER homework was sent home on Tuesday. They will be sent home on Mondays and need to be returned on Friday.  If your child is reading the book that was in the folder fluently after 2 reads, feel free to read another book and still mark it in the folder.  Use only one box per week. Reading with your child is the most important homework you can do with your child. 


Reading-We will review short o and plural words. On Wednesday we start the story A Fox and a Kit.  We have been discussing the characters and setting of a story. This week will begin discussing main idea of a story.  We will focus on the letter sound for short i and adding -ing to a word.  


Math- We are beginning to explore subtraction concepts.  We will continue to review addition vocabulary plus, sum, addens.  

Science-We will drop our parachutes on Monday-weather permitting.  We will then start investigating compressed air.  We will also begin tracking weather. 
September 10-14

BOOK FAIR AT SCHOOL THIS WEEK!!!
GRANDPARENTS DAY-GRANDPARENTS OR PARENTS ARE INVITED TO EAT LUNCH WITH US ON SEPTEMBER 11 AT 11:05

Reading- We will finish reading Pig in a Wig and begin reading Big Blue Ox.  Our phonic skills for this week are short o and adding s to a word to make it plural.  We will also focus on identifying the setting and characters in a story.

Math-We will finish up with the chapter on addition concepts this week.    The students should be able to tell you what an addition sentence, plus sign, equals sign, and sum are.  Practice counting by 5s, 10s, and 1s to 100.  

Social Science: We will begin our first AMSTI kit on Air and Weather.  We will begin the unit by exploring air.  


August 27-31
Reading-We will finish up learning the routines for our reading stations. We will begin reading Sam, Come Back. Review letter sounds for a can digraph ck.  

Math-We will begin our new Go Math series and explore adding two numbers.

Social Science-We will discuss community leaders and rules.  

August 20-24

Welcome to first grade! This page allows me to post what we are going to be working on in class for this week.  

Reading: We will be setting up the routine for stations and review letter names and sounds.  We will also be reading several books about school.

Math: We will be exploring the manipulatives that will be used in math. We will begin our calendar time.  

Social Science: We will explore our school and learn the classroom and school rules.  We will discuss why the rules are important.  We will also discuss the community in our classroom and review how to treat others.
